Kano Gov Poll: Police Promises Clampdown On Fights After Appeal Court Judgment

The state's political decision court fired him. Months after the turn of events, the Appeal Court asserted the choice.

Police authorities in Kano State have vowed to clamp down on any group protesting in the state following a Court of Appeal judgment sacking Governor Abba Yusuf.


The  Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed Yusuf of the New Nigeria People groups Party (NNPP) as the victor of the March poll .

It held that Yusuf was not in the NNPP's register, making him unfit to challenge the political race. The court proclaimed the All Progressive Congress (APC's) Nasiru Gawuna as the victor of the poll in a move that has caused pressures in the North-West state.

Days after the judgment, police authorities in the state say they have gotten reports of group arranging a protest yet kept up with that they will not permit such in that frame of mind to prevent the breakdown of the rule of law.

"The expectation of the dissenters is to close down the state in an activity that may probably cause savagery in the state," Husaini Gumel said in a Monday public interview in Kano.


Citing the peace accord signed by the NNPP and the APC ahead of the court judgment, the Kano police chief said the parties should, in line with the deal, prevent their supporters from “any mass action, suggesting preparation for violent protests or celebrations”.

The Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, has rejected the appeal court judgment affirming the verdict of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sacking him, vowing to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.



The governor, who talked in a transmission, depicted the appeal court judgment as an unsuccessful labor of Justice.

Be that as it may, he encouraged individuals of Kano State to keep quiet and decent as his group of legal advisors arranged to recover what he portrayed as his command at the High Court.
In any case, the APC says the judgment is a triumph for a vote based system and accepts the High Court will maintain the decision.

"There is no question this is a triumph for a democracy rule of government. It is a triumph for APC and a triumph for Kano Express," the APC Public Director Abdullahi Ganduje said at his Abuja home.
