FG, Philanthropic Bodies To Raise $200m For Job Creation, MSME Support

The Federal Government has set plans in motion to raise N200m from philanthropic organisations as part of efforts to create jobs and support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)


He said the presidency has also established the Nigeria Philanthropic Organisation (N.P.O), a private sector-led coordinating office to be domiciled in the office of the vice president, to facilitate the initiative.

The body, Adekunle-Johnson noted, will work with donors, impact investors, and financial institutions to support the establishment of twelve mega hubs across the country and catalyse support for existing and new entrepreneurs in renewable energy, agro-processing, furniture, and fashion among other areas of the economy.

“The funds raised will be invested in key programmes and projects that will create opportunities for employment across different target sectors and facilitate growth in the MSMEs sector,” he added.

According to him, Vice President Kashim Shettima has appointed Thelma Ekiyor-Solanke to chair the Nigeria Philanthropic Organisation while the S.S.A. to the President on MSMEs and Job Creation is to coordinate its secretariat.

“She is the current Chairperson of SME.NG. She is a member of Nigeria’s National Advisory Board on Impact Investing (NABII) and the Chairperson of the Centre for Analytics and Behavioural Change (CABC) in South Africa,” the statement read.

NDLEA Raids Illicit Drug Party In Osun, Arrests Organisers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has raided a lounge in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, targeting a night party organised for the abuse of illicit substances.



In a Sunday statement, the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said NDLEA operatives also arrested some organisers who were found in possession of drug exhibits in the operation.

“Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA on Saturday 25th November raided a lounge in Osogbo, the Osun state capital where a night party organized for illicit substance abuse was going to be held and arrested some of the organisers who were found with drug exhibits,” the statement read.

“The raid followed credible intelligence that some persons were going to hold a night party tagged Unholy Alliance for Stoners and Drunkards where different types of illicit substances were going to be sold and consumed by patrons. Soon after the organisers began to gather at Berrymist Lounge located in the Ofatedo area of Osogbo to start the party, NDLEA operatives swooped on them, arrested them, and recovered illicit substances of abuse and drug paraphernalia from them. Those arrested include Ikotu Omolayo, 25; Fola Olabode, 30, and Akorede Adunni Ajibola, 22. The management of the Lounge has also been invited for further investigation.
“This comes on the heels of an earlier raid on Thursday, November 23 at Area 5 forest reserve, Ile-Ife where operatives recovered 156kgs of cannabis sativa.

“Meanwhile, operatives in Ogun state on Friday 24th November arrested two suspects: Adamu Ibrahim and Nura Sani at Ileke trailer garage, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, where 859 kilograms of cannabis sativa concealed among bags of sugar in a truck for onward transportation to Mokwa, Niger State.”

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Kogi has given INEC 48 hours to issue certified copies of electoral materials on the Nov. 11 off-cycle election in the state to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).


Also, it mandated that INEC permit the SDP's forensic specialists to review certain election-related materials.

The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and result sheets for the local government areas of Adavi, Okene, Okehi, Ogori-Magongo, Ajaokuta, Lokoja, Kogi, and Bassa are among the documents.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) won the election, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) filed a challenge against it. The tribunal decided last week Saturday in Lokoja that the SDP had requested the papers to support its position.

Since Maritime University-Tinubu was founded, the Niger Delta has seen peace once again.

The President states that the organization was created by statute eight years ago as the nation's "premier maritime university" by the Federal Government.

Since the creation of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State in May 2015, peace has been restored to the oil-rich Niger Delta region, President Bola Tinubu said on Saturday.



"Since the university's founding, tranquility has returned to the entire Niger Delta region, which was previously a hotbed of conflict and militancy," stated Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, speaking on Tinubu's behalf at the university's inaugural convocation.

"That is the crucial part this university is playing in maintaining regional peace."
The President stated that the university began academic operations in the nation's "premier maritime university" eight years ago, when it was formally founded by the Federal Government.

In a single accident in Lagos, "Motor Boy" dies.

The incident occurred early on Saturday in the state's Anthony region.

 

A vehicle assistant or ‘motor boy’ died in a lone accident at Anthony ‘Oke’ inward Gbagada, Lagos State on Saturday morning.



The tanker driver was discovered unconscious and was saved by agents of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), while the "motor boy" was discovered dead.

According to a statement released by LASTMA spokesman Adebayo Taofiq, the accident's preliminary inquiry "revealed that the driver of the containerized truck with registration number T 20345 LA lost control due to brake failure."

Without any delay, the truck heading up Anthony Bridge began to descend.

According to the statement, "LASTMA personnel rushed to the scene immediately after the accident happened and rescued the driver unconsciously, while his motor boy was found dead."
Security support was given by Ilupeju Police Station officers.
