 Lagos Declares Transitory Closure Of Adekunle Incline, Lists Alternative Route


The transportation Commissioner says development work is continuous on the consistently bustling route with an objective to finish it under a five-week deadline.

The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of the Adekunle Ramp for road users linking the Third Mainland Bridge and Ebute Meta in the state.

This is with development work continuous on the consistently bustling course with an objective to finish it under a five-week cutoff time, according to a statement on Thursday by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

The whole traffic internal and outward of the incline will near traffic from Sunday, November 19 till December 8 (the fruition time of 5 weeks reserved for the task).

DIVERSION OF TRAFFIC ON ADEKUNLE RAMP, INWARD AND OUTWARD

Following the level of the construction works ongoing on Adekunle Ramp and in order to complete it in record time of Five Weeks, the entire traffic inward and outward of the ramp will close to traffic from Sunday, 19th November till 8th December, 2023, (the completion period of 5 weeks earmarked for the project).

Consequently, alternative routes presently in use still subsist as follows;


1. Motorists from Lagos Island heading to Ebute Meta will make use of Ilubirin to connect Carter Bridge (Idumota Bridge) to link Iddo inwards Otto/Oyingbo axis and access Herbert Macaulay Way to link their desired destinations.

2. Motorists from Victoria Island are to go through Bonny Camp to Onikan Marina Bridge, Apongbon to link Eko Bridge, Costain via Apapa Road, Railway Compound to link Alagomeji, Glover Road to access Apena Junction, Herbert Macaulay Way to connect their desired destinations.

3. In the same vein, Motorists wishing to travel through Adekunle to Ebute- Meta from Lagos- Ibadan are advised to make use of Ikorodu Road (Ojota, Anthony, Onipanu, Fadeyi) and Jibowu to access Herbert Macaulay Way to continue their journeys.

4. Motorists from Gbagada can go through Anthony Interchange to link Ikorodu Road inwards Jibowu to access Herbert Macaulay Way and link their desired destinations.

5. Motorists from Apapa-Oshodi Expressway wishing to link Ebute-Meta are advised to link Oshodi Bridge to Town Planning Way to Ikorodu Road to access their various destinations

Adequate traffic and security personnel are still on ground at the construction zones and the various alternative routes/critical points, Motorists are encouraged to cooperate with them, exercise patience and observe safety measures during the palliative works.

It should be noted that the entire stretch of 3rd Mainland Bridge inward and outward is still open to Motorists during this period as only the Adekunle ramp is affected.

The Federal Government has arraigned the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele, on a six-count charge bordering on alleged procurement.


The first charge, which was 20 builds up to the tune of N6.5 billion, has been decreased to six, to the tune N1.6 billion. Emefiele is the main respondent in the new charge.

Malawi President Cancels Foreign Trips For Self, Cabinet Over Economic Crisis


“All cabinet members currently abroad on public-funded international trips must return to Malawi with immediate effect,” he said.

Malawi’s President, Lazarus Chakwera, has suspended all foreign trips by government officials, including himself, citing the country’s economic crisis.

In a nationwide broadcast on Wednesday night, the President said the move, was part of what he called tough measures to heal the Southern African nation’s economy.

Chakwera also directed all ministers who are currently outside the country to return home and said the suspension will be in place until March next year.

“All cabinet members currently abroad on public-funded international trips must return to Malawi with immediate effect,” he said.

Amid backlash received over his frequent foreign travel, the President said he would lead by example by curtailing his travel plans, including cancelling his attendance at the COP28 climate change conference in Dubai later this month.

He also directed that fuel allocation for ministers, principal secretaries, directors, and all senior officers who are entitled, should be cut by half, adding that the practice of spending taxpayers’ money on useless activities in the form of allowances should be put to an end.

The Malawi leader said all the spending cuts will be channeled towards procurement of food and fertilizer to ensure the country has enough food.

He has also directed the minister of finance to include in the upcoming mid-year budget review provisions for cushioning small to medium enterprises to protect the jobs they create, provisions for a reasonable wage increase for civil servants and review Pay as You Earn tax to remove tax burden from civil servants.
Similarly, ordered ministers of finance and trade to work with the Competition and Fair-Trading Commission to investigate price increases and hold into account all those involved in raising prices in violation of the law.

Chakwera also announced that he has ordered the secretary to the President and Cabinet to ensure the recent hiking of the price of water is absorbed by the operating cost of those boards for now, and not placed on Malawians.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), and its Trade Union counterpart in Zamfara State, have joined in the nationwide indefinite strike, in compliance with the directive of the national leadership.


The two labour union leaders informed journalists in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, of their decision to join the indefinite strike, to press home their demands.
The NLC and its affiliates said the strike was embarked upon, following hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidies, and the assault on the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, in Imo State, Southeast Nigeria, recently.

Though there was low compliance in Zamfara, with the directive from the NLC and TUC to members to withdraw their services on Tuesday, November 14,  AIT’s visit to Yahaya Gusau Federal Secretariat, showed that a pocket of staff was seen coming in and out of the facility.

The state’s NLC and TUC Chairmen, Comrades Sani Halilu and Saidu Mudi, after addressing journalists, thereafter moved to the Jibrin Yakubu Secretariat and other establishments, to ensure compliance with the directive to the down tools.

The Federal Government says it is investigating reports of as many as 264 Nigerian passengers’ visas being cancelled upon their arrival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from Nigeria.
