Taylor Swift Will Earn Over $100M From Spotify This Year

Welcome!!!

Taylor Swift Will Earn Over $100M From Spotify This Year

In 2023, Taylor Swift has towered above her musical peers on multiple fronts. And earlier this week, she racked up another major achievement when she was named Spotify‘s top-streamed artist of 2023.

As part of its annual year-end Wrapped rundown on Wednesday (Nov. 29), Spotify announced that Swift had racked up 26.1 billion streams globally on the service since Jan. 1, topping the likes of three-time champ Bad Bunny as well as The Weeknd, Drake and Peso Pluma. This didn’t exactly come as a surprise considering the ongoing success of her late-2022 album, Midnights, as well as two chart-topping re-recordings: Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version), the latter of which racked up a whopping 375.49 million on-demand official streams in its first week.
Swift’s year on Spotify tops any artist ever on the platform, which — now 15 years since launching — keeps expanding its user base annually. For comparison, when Bad Bunny was announced as the top Wrapped artist in the prior three years, he had 18.5 billion streams in 2022, 9.1 billion in 2021 and 8.3 billion streams in 2020.

According to Billboard‘s royalty calculator, Swift’s 26.1 billion streams amount to about $97 million in recorded music royalties. And the year’s not even done yet. When estimating her total streams through December, that number would swell to 27.2 billion, amounting to recorded music royalties of $101 million through the end of the year from Spotify alone. Add in publishing revenue, and Swift’s music will have earned about $131 million on Spotify by the end of the year.

Of course, that only accounts for Swift’s performance on Spotify, which remains the streaming market leader. When tallying on-demand streams across all platforms — including such heavy-hitters as Apple Music, YouTube Music and Amazon Music — Billboard estimates that her catalog racked up a total of 38.3 billion streams through the end of the year, amounting to a total of about $160 million in recorded royalties, by Billboard’s estimates. With publishing, Swift’s total on-demand streaming revenue gets close to $200 million.

It’s worth noting that Swift likely takes the lion’s share of this money. In her contract with Universal Music Group and Republic Records, signed in 2018, she retained master rights to all of her music going forward. That includes all four of her re-recorded Taylor’s Version albums so far: Fearless, Red, Speak Now and 1989. That re-recording project — which she famously embarked upon after her previous label, Big Machine Records, was acquired by Scooter’s Braun‘s Ithaca Holdings in 2019, much to Swift’s chagrin — has performed beyond likely even Swift’s wildest dreams. And it’s proven a lucrative gambit for the superstar, whose Taylor’s Versions have consistently outperformed the originals on streaming since their respective releases.
Not bad for someone who famously pulled her catalog from Spotify less than a decade ago, calling it a “grand experiment.”

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it will freeze accounts without a Bank Verification Number (BVN) or National Identification Number (NIN) from April 2024.

“The process for account opening shall commence by electronically retrieving BVN or NIN-related information from the NIBSS’ BVN or NIMC’s NIN databases and for same to become the primary information for onboarding of new customers, and all existing customer accounts/wallets for individuals with validated BVN shall be profiled in the NIBSS’ ICAD immediately and within 24hrs of opening accounts/wallets,” the CBN added.

Onana Among Premier League’s Best Goalkeepers, Insists Ten Hag

Welcome!!!

Onana Among Premier League’s Best Goalkeepers, Insists Ten Hag

Onana's start to his United career has been riddled with high-profile errors in the Champions League that have put the Red Devils on the brink of a group stage exit.

Onana’s start to his United career has been riddled with high-profile errors in the Champions League that have put the Red Devils on the brink of a group stage exit.

He was at fault as two Hakim Ziyech free-kicks kickstarted a Galatasaray fightback in a 3-3 draw in Istanbul on Wednesday.

That took United’s tally of conceded goals in their five Champions League games to 14.

But it has been a different story in the Premier League as Onana has let in just 16 goals in 13 matches.
And Ten Hag pointed to figures which show the former Ajax stopper is second in the English top flight for saves made, save percentage and goals prevented.

“If you analyse it well then you see he is the second-best goalkeeper in the Premier League based on stats,” Ten Hag, who championed Onana’s signing from Inter Milan for £47 million ($59 million) in July, told a press conference on Friday.

“He’s doing well. Also, he knows that in the Champions League he makes some mistakes, but all over you see the first five months he is doing particularly well.”

United’s Premier League revival after five wins in six games faces a stern test on Saturday as they travel to Newcastle.
But Ten Hag quashed any suggestion that Onana’s place in the side is under threat.

“You have seen how he is reacting to a bad performance like in (Bayern) Munich. At Burnley (three days later) he was outstanding,” added Ten Hag.

“He is a strong character, he is a personality and he will deal with it.”

United’s recent run has taken them above Newcastle in the table into sixth.
But all of their eight Premier League wins this season have come against sides in the bottom half of the table.

By contrast, they have lost all four meetings against teams in the top half.

And Ten Hag recognised his players’ need to rise to the challenge when facing strong opposition.

“We have to rise to the occasion, be our best against them because the way they play is very organised,” he said on the trip to Newcastle.

“I really respect them. It’s a difficult team to play but it’s a good challenge and I like to play against it.”

30 Feared Trapped In Zambia Mine Collapse – Minister

Welcome!!!

30 Feared Trapped In Zambia Mine Collapse – Minister

The mines ministry made no comment saying it would make an inspection first at the site in the Chingola region, about 400 kilometers (250 miles) north of the capital Lusaka.

More than 30 people were feared trapped Friday in a mine collapse in a Zambian region known for illegal open-cast digging for copper, a minister said.

“May I just inform the nation that we have a tragedy brewing in Chingola,” Home Affairs Minister Jack Mwiimbu told parliament.

“We have more than 30 people under the rubble” in a makeshift mine, he added, without giving further details.

The mines ministry made no comment saying it would make an inspection first at the site in the Chingola region, about 400 kilometers (250 miles) north of the capital Lusaka.
Zambia is one of the world’s largest copper producers and Chingola is in the country’s copper-belt region.

The region has one of the world’s largest open-cast copper mines and some of the waste hills are 100 metres (300 feet) high.

New Zealand To Ban Cellphones In Schools

Welcome!!!

New Zealand To Ban Cellphones In Schools

Advertisement Cellphones will be banned in schools across New Zealand, conservative Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said Friday.

Cellphones will be banned in schools across New Zealand, conservative Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said Friday, as his fledgling government looks to turn around the country’s plummeting literacy rates.

New Zealand’s schools once boasted some of the world’s best literacy scores, but levels of reading and writing have declined to the point that some researchers fear there is a classroom “crisis”.

Luxon declared he would ban phones at schools within his first 100 days in office, adopting a policy trialled with mixed results in the United States, United Kingdom and France.

The move would stop disruptive behaviour and help students focus, Luxon said.
“We are going to ban phones across New Zealand in schools. We want our kids to learn and we want our teachers to teach,” he said.

Researchers from New Zealand charity Education Hub warned of a “literacy crisis” in 2022, finding more than one-third of 15-year-olds could barely read or write.

“That something must be done to address the distressingly low literacy rates in Aotearoa New Zealand is clear,” they wrote.

Luxon’s conservative government, sworn in on Monday, has been mired in controversy during its first week in power.
Doctors warned the country faced a looming public health “tragedy” after the government unexpectedly scrapped world-leading tobacco control measures that aimed to prohibit the sale of cigarettes to anyone born after 2008.

Luxon has also agreed to restart offshore oil and gas exploration, junking one of former premier Jacinda Ardern’s signature climate change policies.

NAF Helicopter Crashes In Port Harcourt

Welcome!!!

NAF Helicopter Crashes In Port Harcourt

The helicopter crashed shortly after it took off for an operation against economic saboteurs in Rivers State.

NAF spokesman, Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the development in a statement.

He said all those onboard survived though they sustained “minor injuries”.

The helicopter with the number NAF MI-35P crashed at exactly 7.45 am shortly after it took off for an operation against economic saboteurs in Rivers State.

“Fortunately, the entire crew of 5 survived the crash with very minor injuries and are currently being attended to at NAF Medical Centre Port Harcourt.
“The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, is currently en route Port Harcourt to access the situation for himself, see to the wellbeing of the crew and give further directives,” the statement partly read.

The spate of NAF helicopters crashing leaving casualties has been a source of worry to aviation and safety experts in the last two years, with stakeholders calling on the military to uphold standard operating procedures and routine maintenance of its fleet.

In August 2023, NAF MI-171 Helicopter on a casualty evacuation mission crashed near Chukuba Village in Niger State, leaving casualties behind.

In 2021, at least 20 military officers lost their lives within three months in three crashes involving NAF jets.
Then Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 others were onboard a NAF Beachcraft 350 aircraft that crashed on May 21, 2021 near the Kaduna International Airport. All the 11 military personnel died in the tragic accident.
