Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has thanked supporters following his re-election.

Uzodimma became the Imo governor in 2020 after the Supreme Court nullified Emeka Ihedioha’s victory.

But on Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate as the winner of the Imo governorship election after he cleared all 27 local government areas of the South-East state.

“My good people of Imo State, I am humbled and honored by your overwhelming support in yesterday’s election,” he said after the victory.

“Your trust in me to continue leading our dear State is both inspiring and deeply appreciated. Together, we have achieved a resounding victory and I am committed to delivering on the promises made during our campaign.”

Melaye Calls For ‘Total Cancellation’ Of ‘Shameful’ Kogi Gov Poll

Welcome!!!

Melaye Calls For ‘Total Cancellation’ Of ‘Shameful’ Kogi Gov Poll

“INEC officials and youth corps members were caught yesterday with prepared result sheets even before the commencement of the processes. A youth corps member was arrested with a prepared result and N1 million in his bag.”

Senator Dino Melaye appears on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, April 18, 2023

Dino Melaye has called for the cancellation of the Kogi State governorship election, describing the conduct of the exercise as “shameful”.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate in the election said this during a press conference in Lokoja on Sunday just as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collates results for the poll.

“I will start by condemning in its totality the conduct of the elections yesterday and outrightly call for the total cancellation of the election because that was not an election,” the PDP candidate said.

“It is shameful that the unhealthy INEC refuse to realise, ameliorate or palliate the problems they created in the last presidential and governorship elections.

“Yesterday in the five local governments of the central senatorial district in Kogi state, there was no election. Surprisingly, accreditation was done manually, the BVAS was not used. Prepared sheets manifested even before accreditation took place and evidence is all over the media.

“So, INEC as a matter of urgency must cancel the election. In many areas where I won, my agents were told there were no available result sheets to enter the result and we have evidence to back up these claims.

“As I speak to you, it is shameful that this is what our democracy has descended to. INEC has manifested more than before, that they cannot be trusted, they are biased, they are compromised, and they cannot be a neutral umpire.

“INEC officials and youth corps members were caught yesterday with prepared result sheets even before the commencement of the processes. A youth corps member was arrested with a prepared result and N1 million in his bag.”

Melaye’s comment came hours after social media became awash with result sheets for the Kogi governorship election even before the exercise commenced.

But the commission was swift to respond to the matter, assuring Nigerians that it would probe the issue.

“Our attention has been drawn to a report that filled result sheets were discovered in some polling units in Kogi State,” the commission said on X. “The Commission views this situation seriously.”

The Governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the just concluded Imo state Governorship election Athan Achonu has accused security operatives of colluding with the ruling All Progressives Congress to manipulate the result in the state.

Addressing newsmen in his country home in Ehime Mbano local government area of Imo state, the 64-year-old  alleged his party supporters and voters were intimidated and harassed during the election as the outcome of the election doesn’t reflect what truly transpired at the polling units.

It is a very sad day for democracy, for good governance for freedom of choice and equal opportunity,” he said.
“Yesterday security agencies of this country raped our democracy. It was a big shock, I am just recovering from it this morning.\

“The DSS, Police and the military raped our democracy it was like a coup by the security agencies, it wasn’t INEC.”

“INEC was scared, they brought people from different states of the country and when they came they were willing to work. But when you see the security agents that are supposed to protect you where they behead people like chickens and are doing the bidding of the government, what do you do?

He argued that the Returning officer should have stopped collation following a petition by his party agent that the results at the polling units uploaded to the IREV didn’t correspond with what the collation officers presented at the state collation centre. He promises to challenge the outcome of the election in court.
